Why would I want my child to learn to sew?

Why should you want you or your child to learn to sew? I'll tell you!

Sewing is good practice of life skills. It's practical.

  • reading & reading comprehension
  • listening
  • following directions
  • math: measure, add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals
  • problem solving
  • designing, planning, thinking
  • ironing
  • safety
  • eye/hand coordination
  • watching the process of each step and how it builds from the previous step
  • the joy of completing a project that can  be enjoyed for many years

 

Oh, and did I mention this skill can save you money?

  • mending / repairing / alterations
  • making your own home decor
  • repurposing / recycling old items
  • gift making

Why should I Sew?

 

Sewing is a practical, USEFUL life skill.

Sewing (and doing crafts) is HEALTHY for you!  Sewing (and doing crafts) helps

  • helps you relax and reduce stress, calms nerves while you're concentrating on something artistic and enjoyable,
  • uses the creative side of your brain
  • lowers heart rate, blood pressure, and perspiration rate

You will SAVE MONEY

  • decorating your home with your own creations
  • re-purposing/recycling old or reclaimed items
  • making gifts
